This is very interesting. Only, I read their mission statement and will copy and paste a portion of it here.
____________________________________________________
We are called out to be "a chosen people" that pays no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated. Our congregation is a combination of the haves and the have-nots; the economically disadvantaged, the under-class, the unemployed and the employable.
The fortunate who are among us combine forces with the less fortunate to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with America’s economic mal-distribution!

It seems like a very orgainzed church of worship of Christian values. All things that many people seem to lothe these days. It is also good to know they are committed to see that all people have a chance at equality. This is a good thing. I am just very skeptical regarding the mission statement in it's entirety, and in particular this last paragraph.
They say that they have a commitment to Africa and #8 also disturbs me:
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
What is wrong with Middleclass people?, and why do they find this unacceptable? What are their plans and is Barak a 'plant' within the system to give the African-Americans full advantage, while pushing others aside? The church was also ASKING for what I believed to be BIG BUCKS for their work...and this is frightening. The Roman Catholic Church has always been the largest congregation. Yet, they only ask for donation to support the church needs...fuel for heat...housing for the priests. People only say it's rich, but the Catholic church has given away more time, money and 'things' than any other single church in history. Yet, they are not 'rich'. It only looks that way because of the Vatican...but it is very old and everything they have has been handed down for centuries...and coveted, I might add.
See, these are strange times...and I've seen so much....sooo very much that has displeased me as well as literally scared me, that I find that making a choice right now, one way or another is just.....well, it's like there will not be a good choice this time. ALL these candidates are scary...ALL of them.
Drop me a line at timeless57@comcast.net and I'll let you in on a few things. There is so much more...it will boggle your mind.

Ever heard of Robert Hanssen, America's most notorious traitor? A 25-year FBI veteran (his specialty with the FBI was counter-intelligence), spied for Russia for more than 15 years and was responsible for the deaths of 3 Russians working for us? Neighbors described this FBI man as devoted to his family of 8, and a regular churchgoer - never failing to attend Sunday mass as a family, and he regularly attended a 6:30 a.m. daily mass for more than a decade! He was a supernumerary member of Opus Dei - a real Right Wing Conservative Religious man! His wife taught classes part time at a religious high school, the Catholic high school, teaching religious studies - seemingly a perfect and very religious family!.And guess what? In secret, and unknown to his wife, he videotaped them in sexual acts and shared the videotapes with a friend. He also explicitly described their sex life on internet chat rooms, giving information sufficient for those who knew them to recognize the couple. He had an affair with stripper named Priscilla Sue Galey. giving her money, jewels and a used Mercedes and taking her on foreign trips!
There an upcoming movie, "Breach", adapted from real events on how he got caught. Go see it.
Why do I bring this guy up? To show that a man's exhibition of religion is not proof of or have any bearing to what he really is. Think also of how highly Ted Haggert was being revered by the religious Right and he turned out to be a promiscuous and lying sleaze.

Interesting link, thanks. I love that, along with being a strong Christian, he's also a pluralist. His website mentions a speech he gave in 2006 before an evangelical audience, noting: "Senator Obama also laid down principles for how to discuss faith in a pluralistic society, including the need for religious people to translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values during public debate."
I like this. It shows religious commitment, and yet a democratic mindset.
