is it hard to take care of exotic fish?

It depends. There is a lot of work involved in fishkeeping, more than most people realize. What you need to do will depend on if you have a freshwater or a saltwater aquarium. The most important thing you can do if you want healthy fish is to RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY!!! Figure out what type of fish you want, and do lots and lots of research--look at many sources--to find out what size tank it needs, what tankmates it can have, what it should eat, etc. Research what you need to do before you set up your tank (again, this will vary depending on what setup you go with--saltwater or freshwater), and research what kind of maintenance you should do each week (for a freshwater tank, you should be doing 50% weekly water changes). If you gather all of the knowledge you can before you set up your tank, and do your best to take care of the fish the way they need to be taken care of, you should be very successful in this hobby.

Honestly, it depends on what exotic fish you are referring to. Particularly with freshwater, there are fish that appear exotic but are actually quite easy to care for. Then there are others that need the attentions of a knowledgable,experienced and dedicated aquarist. Even many salt water fish can be easy to care for when no corals and other tempermental life are involved, while many others need dedicated care.
