I havent been to every football city in America so its hard to judge but...from experience... I think that Buffalo, Green Bay, Kansas City, Cleveland, and Oakland have the diehards maybe to even be creeped up by new england, denver, and new orleans.

Your thoughts?

I would have to narrow it down to the smaller cities with nothing better to do besides get behind their teams, and this is for NFL only - Buffalo, Green Bay, Kansas City, Indianapolis...but also include Pittsburgh and Cleveland, not because they have nothing to do (they have some decent things) but they just seem to identify with it more...

I am from Chicago, and no matter how much we claim we are a football town, we do not identify on a per person basis like the smaller towns, just because we have more distractions to take us away - so, Chicago, New York, Boston, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Denver, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland are automatically elimanated.

Okay so NFL:

1) Green Bay- Somebody has to die in order to get those tickets and they better not have any kids to will their tickets to.

2) Oakland- There's a reason they got their team back across the bay.

3) Pittsburg - The Terrible Towel flies everywhere in that city.

4) New Orleans - As of recent they are probably some of the most dedicated fans in the NFL. I knew people who literally scrounged up the last bit of money they had for tickets to their first game back in the Superdome.

5) Cleveland- The city did some serious serious campaigning to bring the Browns back, no matter how awful they are.

College:

1) South Bend, IN - Anyone who's ever been to South Bend on a weekend when Notre Dame plays will know they have some of the deepest tradition and most dedicated fans in college football.

2) College Station, TX - Texas A&M fans are nuts. There's a reason they have the traditional 12th Man. Those people live, eat and breathe Aggie football.

3) Hunington, WV - Home of the Marshall University Thundering Herd. I've been to Hunington several times in my life and know that there's one thing people are very very passionate about and that's football. The movie is pretty accurate about the way it effected the town and the people.

4) Morgantown, WV - The Morgantown Fire Department had to issue a warning to residents to remove flammable couches from their front yards and porches because they BURN THEM when there is an emotional win. I think that officially qualifies them for my top 5: http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/5031035/detail.html

5) Gainesville, FL - Nobody goes into The Swamp without knowing they're most definitely in the swamp. They host the Gator Growl which is ticketed as the "World's Largest Student-Run Pep Rally" the Friday before their homecoming game. It's nuts. Billy Donovan may have his basketball team, but football rules in Gainesville.

After Hurricane Katrina New Orleans has the city and the rest of the Nation behind them. Green Bay is a great football city as well as Oakland(die hard fans), New England (when your team does nothing but win your gonna be a big football city), and Chicago.

Hmmmm, Chicago, Green Bay, Denver, Washington DC, New York. These towns sell out their games all the time, regardless if the team is winning or losing. Buffalo is close, so is Jacksonville. I think a better question is who's the worst. I'd put Miami wayyyy up top. How can you not sell out????

Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Kansas City and can't say much with the rest. As to New England, let's see those fans when the team starts losing again THEN I'll believe they have fans. I think too many of those fans are fair-weather fans.

Keep in mind that college football fever runs rampant as well.

Here's my five

Columbus Ohio. I lived there. People don't say "hi" to each other. They say "Go Bucks." Also, I've seen the local news anchors encourage students to take down the goal posts.

Green Bay, Wisconsin. One of the founding cities of the NFL. The fans will tickets to their children.

Pittsburgh, PA. Not only are the Steelers a part of the town, so is the University of Pittsburgh. High school football is a huge part of the town as well, with local players often going far into the pros.

Chicago IL. What other city's fans inspired a Saturday Night Live sketch?

Dallas, TX. Football and Texas are one. But I give it to Dallas because of the tradition of Dallas Cowboy football.
