Does anybody know about any prison reforms/ movements in the United States or France in the 1960s-1970s?

I also would like to know where I can find data on how many books MIchel Foucault sold in France after he published Discipline and Punish and what the french people thought of his work. I would like to know the same thing, but for the U.S. I have been looking for this information for a few days and asked quite a few librarians. Hopefully someone knows something about this out there. I would really appreciate your help. and Thanks for taking the time to read this.
