My new puter doesn't have a floppy either, has CD, DVD... runs on W2k. Can I cable them together? Or run a Parallel/USB to a jump drive?

depending on the file size go to circuit city and buy a usb flash drive you can get a gig for about $25-40

or if your old computer does not have a usb port you can scout ebay for a hard drive enclosure then you pull your old hard drive and connect it via usb of the enclosure to your new computer. your harddrive is about the size of an ipod so it is would serve as an additional portable storage device in this manner.

Your best bet is to use a parallel cable to connect the two. You will have run a file transfer wizard to send and receive the files. Im not entirely sure how to set that up with win 95. Another approach is to take the hard drive out of the labtop and connect as a slave drive to your win 2000. A third approach, depending on how many, type and large your files are, you could send them through your email account. If they are text files then send them through email via dial up. I think I covered all possibilities. So remember USB will not work because win95 doesn't support it. You can't use an ethernet cable because you have no NIC.

A simple way to transfer files would be to use a USB hard drive. You may have to load a program to make the old laptop interface with the device (driver) but they are usually included with the drive. As an option you can use a network cable if your computer is so equipped. This takes a lot more work, and a little network savvy so I do not recommend it.

Talk to your local computer dealer. I bought a UNITEK disk drive adapter kit with power supply for $40 cdn. This lets you take the disk drive out of your old computer, and attach it to the new computer via a USB port. You plug everything in, then simply drag and drop your files/directories onto the new computer.

Another way to do this is to get a network card for your old laptop. Try to find a used one, as most new laptops have this built in. Get a reversing network cable and plug the two laptops in. Set up your network, with file sharing, and use the new laptop to copy the files from the old laptop.

When you say network card, do you mean the one with a jack in it which is accessable from the back of your computer or do you mean a wireless card?
If you have a jack in the back of your computer, you can link your computer to your new machine through a hub with some Cat5 cables. Otherwise I suggest some kind of mass storage device like a flash drive.
