I'm not going to lecture you about infections and bacteria, I think you got enough of those answers. Instead here's some application info. P.S. I 've always heard you don't put eyeliner there because it makes your eyes look smaller. My mom has really big eyes so when I put eyeliner on her I do line the inner lid on the bottom.
The tissue of the eye area is extremely delicate, therefore when choosing an eyeliner pencil be sure to select one that is soft enough to glide easily. This is one aspect of makeup application that not only takes practice but an extremely steady hand.
Pencil eyeliners tend to be quite popular because they are easier to control and also can give the look that you want to achieve. Liquid eyeliners on the other hand require more practice. They create precise lines once applied with enough control.
The new kid on the block - felt tip liners – are quite similar to liquid eyeliners in consistency and offers the user a bit more control. Cake eyeliners, traditionally used by professionals are now becoming very popular. A new trend is to use eyeshadows as eyeliners. The advantage of this is that you have so many more colors with which to line.
For wide set eyes, emphasize the inner corners of the eyes. For close set eyes, emphasize the outer corners, keeping the inner corners highlighted. For drooping eyes, turn the outer end of the liner in an upward direction.
Here are some good links to learn the best way to apply make-up.
Have fun!

There are many reasons why this is not a good idea. The first is that this kind of application smears in a very short period of time and creates goopy dark specks in the eye. Applying any makeup that is destined to smear in less than an hour or two is not a good idea. Pencil applied along the rim of the eye usually causes the area to become irritated; after all you are putting a foreign substance next to the mucous membrane of your eye. I am equally concerned about the health of the eye area when this technique is used. While there are no studies indicating there are any risks associated with pencil being applied to the rim of the eye, it seems problematic to put cosmetic ingredients (that include coloring agents and preservatives) that close to the eye.

The purpose of eyeliner is to accentuate the eyes. If you put it on the inside of the eyelids, that would defeat the purpose of using it. Also, you don't want to put a foreign substance on a place where it could touch your eyeball and irritate your skin.

Well I have almond shape big blue eyes and I line the inside. I hold the lid until it dries. I have never heard that this can not be done. My sister in law is a makeup artist... she gets me to do her make up. You have to keep your pencils clean and replace them often, but I have never had a problem. My makeup looks nice. I use gray, black, brown or sometimes white to line the insides. I use a black or dark brown liquid on the top unless I have smokey eyes for going out at night. I hope it not really bad now I will be reading about it all night... Hell who am I kidding... it looks too hot ... I'm keeping my liner:) lol...lol (:

Putting it on the inside will cause bacteria in your eyelid...which may form a sty.
It belongs on the outside and lets try to keep it that way.

Because many eyeliners are made from bat guano. It's supposed to be steralized, but... it's GUANO!
(you don't want that to touch your eyeball, infection and blindness could result!)

first of all, why would you want to? it's not like other people can see it. second of all, because it hurts and there are germs on the pencil. if you do that, then germs move from the pencil to your inner lid and then you could get serious bacterial infections!!

Because it would then be in direct contact with the cornea and could damage it....not a good thing.
