Cats have 2 blood groups A & B
Most cats are A however burmese are always B
Dogs have heaps and heaps of blood types but as they do not have such a fatal reaction as cats do if you give a different blood type a lot of big emergency centres have greyhounds that they bleed and use as donors and they have one of each other the cat types. In dogs it isn't breed specific

With dogs they have different types of blood, but for the first blood transfusion it doesn't matter what type it is. It is only if the require another one in their life it must be the exact same as the first on. We had a retired greyhound who was our blood donor dog. Luckly in the 2 years I worked there we only had to use him twice, but once you give a dog a blood transfusion they must recieve the same blood for future transfusions. As far as cat's I have no idea... we never had to deal with a cat blood transfusion.

That's a good question. This is only a guess, but I would say that animals have different blood types just as we do. Mammals, anyway.
