Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is probably the scariest movie I've ever seen. I watched it again a few years ago and even though I knew the story and what would happen, I almost had to turn it off.
And when I say scary, I'm not talking about a movie that made me jump out of my seat.
When I was a kid I thought Poltergeist was very scary but when I watched it about two years ago I thought it was just campy. But if you haven't seen it before it's worth checking out.
For what it's worth, I'm not much of a horror movie fan. The Ring scared me pretty good - I watched the last 30 minutes or so through my fingers. The Exorcist did nothing for me. But that's probably because I'm not religious and so the religious horror just doesn't work for me.

My personal favorite scary movie is 28 Days Later. Check it out. Its prolly the best Zombie movie ever made and it will scare the sh!t outta ya!!
Cabin Fever is a 3/4 star movie....pretty disturbing.
Poltergeist, The Shining, and Exorcist are classic horror flicks and always great for a late night scare.

The Shining was pretty scary. One movie that I thought had it's scary moments was Cabin Fever. It was one of the best scary movies of late. House of Wax from 2005 was pretty scary, I liked the way Paris Hilton's character bought it. I think all of the guys in the theater cheered that scene on.

It depends on what you mean. Horror movie wise, I cannot help you. But if you want actual fear, Fereignheit 911. To think that George Bush has that much power is absolutely terrifying.
But I'm with you on the scarey movies not being so scarey. That's the movie industry these days.

The scariest moment in a movie for me was on Signs. When you see the footage of the child's birthday party and an alien walks by, well, it startled the poo out of me.

I always thought "Prince of Darkness" was scary. Not because of sudden loud noises or things jumping out, but because it's creepy and a frightening thought if it were real... Sends chills just thinking about it!
