I guess it's her choice, isn't it?

One of the reasons I go to a female gynecologist is for the reason you gave but another reason that I go to a female gyn over a male one is b/c I've had bad experiences with male gyns.

The way that some women I've met feel about female gyns like some of the posters here is the way I feel about male gyns. When I was first trying to find out about what was wrong with me the very first gyn I went to was a male dr. He was very nice but the end result was that he thought my problem was related to my IBS. When I found a female gyn thanks to a friend of mine I got the help I needed and was diagnosed with endometriosis.

My 3rd gyn was also male and I stayed with him for almost 3 years but the experience was just plain awful and then I found a better gyn. I now have a female gyn. I've been with her for almost 10 years now and things are just wonderful with her.

As the other posters said everyone is different as to who they prefer going to. I get listened to better by female drs.

I've been to both male and female ob/gyn's. I've found women doctors not to be very understanding. I had a horrible pregnancy, incredibly sick... well, this doctor had great pregnancies so my pregnancy problems were "in my head." Turned out, I had systemic lupus.

I changed doctors and he was wonderful. He was incredibly compassionate and understanding.

Just because we don't have the same anatomy or illness as someone, doesn't mean we can't empathize or sympathize with them. There are good and bad doctors in both sexes in all areas.

Some women feel more comfortable with men. I don't like women around my vagina, personally. I like a man, even though there may be no physical attraction. It just comes naturally for some women to feel comfortable with a man. I feel like the worst possible senario is that I could be raped. But psychologically a woman raping me would be worse than a man a raping me, although both of those situations are extremely horrid.

I go to a male dr. and he is very caring and has always answered any questions I had. The nurse is female, and I trust her too. I feel comfortable with a male dr. I had a female dr before I moved and she was fine.

There's nothing wrong with going to a male gynecologist, I go to a male one and he is very good. I prefer a male one to a female one.

My gyno is a male. I guess I feel like if I had a woman gyno, then she'd be judging me or something. I don't like being touched by strange women. I'm not a homophobe or anything. I just don't like being touched by strange women. Strange men, thats fine....but not strange women.
I dunno.....maybe if the gyno was an old woman, I wouldn't mind as much.....

You go to a male gyn doc because he is good. If a doc is good it shouldn't matter what sex they are. I would rather have a good male GYN doc than a lousy female one any day as it is my health on the line. One of the best GYN docs in my area is male.

There can be some female doctors who don't show the slightest bit of empathy. Its the nature of the person that matters and not the gender.

I had a male gyno for a LONG time and he was the best. very quick and did his job very well. then he was booked one day and I had a medical problem that I needed his opinion on...so they put me with one of the female ones...and it was my first time with as female gyno. well she was HORRIBLE to me. she put me down about the few sex partners I have had and even...put me down about my FIANCE! when I told her my hubby was in the army///she gave me that "ewww" look...that look of discust and told me that I shouldnt be with him..then misdiagnosed me with a freaking std which i did NOT have and told me I prob got it from my fiance because he was nasty and prob slept with a bunch of nasty girls...went back to my male doc a few weeks later and he told me I was FINE and perfectly healthy..so I prefer men over women....just because some female gynos are quick to judge another woman..because its in our nature!
