Supposedly comedy central was going to pay him 50 million for another season, but he didn't like what the future episodes were going to be about, I guess he felt like he would be "selling out"

In a June 2004 stand-up performance in Sacramento, California, Chappelle walked off the stage after berating his audience for constantly shouting "I'm Rick James, *****!," which became a catchphrase from the popular "Rick James" sketch. After a few minutes, Chappelle returned and continued by saying, "The show is ruining my life." He stated that he disliked working "20 hours a day" and that the popularity of the show was making it difficult for him to continue his stand-up career, which was "the most important thing" to him. He also told the audience: You know why my show is good? Because the network officials say you're not smart enough to get what I'm doing, and every day I fight for you. I tell them how smart you are. Turns out, I was wrong. You people are stupid. Season 3 was scheduled to air on May 31, 2005, but in that month, Chappelle stunned fans and the entertainment industry when he abruptly left during production of the third season of Chappelle's Show and took a trip to South Africa. Chappelle has since stated that he was unhappy with the direction the show had taken. .

well, you know how there were mostly white writer and directors on his show...
well, once they were doing this skit about the klan and a black man ( the skit never made it to t.v) the black man was saying things like "yes masser," and stuff like that and he said before it rubbed him the wrong way but he thought it was just comedy until one of the white guys started laughing a little too much
he couldnt take it and he instantly just walked off the set
the thig is,he shouldnt have even let them think that he would let those white men take the black jokes that far, just because they signed his checks.
that stuff should have never started,as far as i'm concerned he already sold out
he might as well have done it with money in his pocket.
all those other things are just rumors...
cant tell you were i got my facts just know that its a fact
disregard those other answers that just got they information off of a magazine, cause as you see they cant say why because they dont know.

He had a nervous break down. He was on actors studio on Bravo a few months back and said he didn't want to do the show because the writers, were writing racist jokes about black people.

They were offering him 50 million to be a sell-out and he was actually tempted. He thought about it and decided to stay true to himself instead.
