Like where they put their arm around someone, around the shoulder as compared to around the waist. Does how the pose say anything about the relationship with the person they are posing with?

absolutely there are psychological motives in posing for a photo. if that person is attracted to the other person surely he/or she would potray gestures or words affectionately such as holding hands or anything connected to affectionate feelings. posing for a picture with someone we just acknowledge compared to those we had a strong liking for would surely shows difference.of course you wouldn't want to lean and secure your hands tightly around her waist when you just get to know her. probably she would think that u are taking advantage of her.although a girl who is ur bestfriend for ages and acted normal and she didh't say she had a liking for you more than just being a friend but potraying some affectionate gestures [of course u could distinguish between the normal , appropriate gestures and those affectionate ones] when posing 4 a photo, REMEMBER that means something. not all people are excellent at potraying affections and emotions by words, that is where u couldn't tell what is in their mind but still u have other options by understanding body languages and that is where it becomes really handy when reading people's emotion expertly.hope that helps a bit though not completely.
