Well... Start off with a card that says "새해 복 많이 받으세요" (Hope you have good luck in the new year).
I think anything is fine for a new year's gift, what does your professor like? I'm Korean, but I haven't heard of anyone giving gifts for people besides their family during New Years. If you were to give a gift, it still depends on individual tastes. Perhaps a food gift? Like a small pastry or dduk (rice cake) cake, I know Paris Baguette has delicious looking ones.

Well, If you are a foreign student, why don't you give a gift according to your country's culture. Koreans like giving gifts, but since you are a foreign student, koreans would love to get gifts according to your culture, I guess i would :)

you didnt say north or south. if your in north korea give him material so he can make weapons of mass distruction, maybe it might go off and take out alot of thoes trouble makers.
