if you say the US gov should pay them a salary competitive with the private sector, so as to compete and ensure top grade judges....then why shouldn't the US gov pay teachers salaries that ensure our kids are taught by top grade teachers?

I make $22,000 a year as an EMT. I spend my day out there in the mud and the blood. I am supporting a wife, who works very part-time, and two kids. I agree with you whole-heartedly.

Yes I can see cutting the salaries of liberal judges where they have to collect soft drinks cans to survive. But the conservatives need a descent salary to live on.

So lets cut the libs salaries and double the cons.

I think that they could get by on $7.25 an hour. And let's face facts: they want to be Supreme Court Justices for the power, not for the money.

You are comparing apples to spaghetti O's. THe comparison is inane. We in america beleive int he individual responsibility model, that is the basis for our government and economy, such that they are. Any acknowledgement of a need to teach more takes away from the idea of inidividual responsibility.

Public School teachers should receive salaries commensurate with the private school sector. Therefore, they get paid way too much. (Sorry to confuse people with the facts.)

don't confuse them with the facts, they get irritated when you do that. This is about our values, and it is clear we don't value teachers, our children's future, or ultimately the fate of our country. It is all about what's in it for those on top of the food chain today.
