I am highly considering doing a tubal ligation along with my scheduled cesarean in the next 3 weeks. Does having that additional surgery done change recovery time or affect how you will bleed afterwards?

Karen i just had a baby and had to have an emergency c section and i also got my tubes clipped and burned and i was up and walking around that next day. I only had to stay in the hospital for 48 hours. But everyone is different cause it may change the way your period is such as the flow or even the length of time you have it. but not only that you also have the chance of nerve damage when they cut you cause with me my stomach would itch and i could not tell if i was scratching it or not. I mean there are many different out comes to this. It just depends on the person and the body healing. I wish you the best and congrats on the baby.

If you are considering ligation this is the perfect time. Your recovery will be the same, there should be no additional post-op/delivery bleeding. Your periods afterward will not be affected, (I wasn't sure what bleeding you were referring to).
Do inform your Dr. in advance, last minute decisions could be considered made under duress and your Dr. may not want to do the ligation since it is not/or extremely difficult to reverse.

As far as the scaring, it will take the same time, but healing internally might take a little longer. I wish someone had asked me when I had my last cesarean before I actually was in the middle of the surgery cause the doctor filling in that night just popped his head over the curtain and looked at me and asked "did you want your tubes tied?". I cant stand stupid doctors.

If you are considering it be sure to let your doctor know ASAP. Some states require that you go to a class and sign papers. I had it done at my C-section and had no longer recovery time than I expected. Just be sure to do the paperwork ahead of time if you need to jump through insurance hoops first. Congratulations on your coming little one.

Nope, not at all.

In fact, it makes things easier in the long run because you have only had to have one surgery instead of two. Much easier on your body, no difference as to amount of pain/recovery time/etc for the C-section.
