I have coarse, black hairs on my chin, extreamly heavy periods that only last 2-3 days, and I have 30lbs that I can't seem to lose. While looking for information on laser for the hairs I read that many people have something called PCOS that contributes to the hair growth. How do I go about getting diagnosed? I don't want to have children right now, so a fertility doctor isn't something I'm interested in.

Yes, my sister was diagnosed with low thyroid so I got mine checked too, but it's normal. I will definately see my doctor and an endocrinologist. Thanks!

You need to find an endocrinologist in your area, not a fertility specialist. Explain the symptoms you are having and request the testing. It is generally diagnosed after running glucose testing. From the sounds of your symptoms, it is definately a possibility. Have you had your thyroid tested lately? It can cause similar results!
And as for not wanting to get pregnant now, please don't let that be a reason you do not seek help now. Years down the road you may regret having not gotten the treatment you needed. The damage can be permanent, however if caught soon enough it can be reversed.
Good luck and get the testing done soon!

I do, in accordance to ultrasounds and the reality that i'm having difficulty conceiving. My in trouble-free terms actual indications are undesirable epidermis and "some" facial hair, no longer a 5 o clock shadow or some thing. i'm 29 and that i began to suspect PCOS about 2 years in the past yet grow to be no longer formally informed some thing through a medical professional till 3 months in the past. I actually have commonplace classes and ovulate each and each month, i'm no longer overweight and, so some distance as i understand, do no longer have insulin resistance, so I even don't understand WHY I actually have this difficulty. birth control worked wonders for me at the same time as i grow to be on it, my epidermis cleared actual up and that i now no longer had such heavy classes and undesirable cramps. with any success, it is going to furnish you with the outcomes you want. many women folk with PCOS who're overweight cope with to lose dissimilar weight through utilising metformin, a diabetic drug, which may also help alleviate the indicators of PCOS. solid success! that is solid that you stuck it early- it is going to forestall dissimilar distress in the destiny.

There is a blood test that needs to be done first, so go to your GP and express your concerns and ask that he do a test to see is you may have them, Sounds like you might. The laser will not remove the hair permananlty if you have PCOS as the hormones are still gonna be there. Once you find out the real problem and have treatment then do the laser thing. Trust me you will only be wasting your money.

If you already have an OB-GYN, tell him/her about your concerns. It could be a hormone imbalance. Either to much or not enough estrogen or progesterone. Birth control pills are used to balance hormones and helps to clear up dark hair, some acne, irregular periods and helps prevent ovarian cysts. Results vary from one individual to another but I'm sure there are options out there to help. Hopefully it's not PCOS, it's no fun

I'd suggest talking to your regular doctor and getting a referal to an endrocronologist. It sounds like you have it, that coming from someone who has it.
A infertility doctor might be able to help you, even if you don't want babies now, mine didn't help me (I don't want kids now either), but he was only in the room maybe 1 minute.
Eating a low-carb (not good carbs like fresh veggies) dairy-free
diet helps alot
be careful with a lot of the meds they can have bad side effects

To be diagnosed, you would see an Endocrinologist. He/she will give you tests to determine if you have PCOS.
