Like they say, there's a time for work and a time to play. Now let's say you finished one part of something and about to go on to the next, as well as one or two other workers, just pat the person on their back as you pass them or smile. A pat can go a long way. lol. Just break the ice.......

You might try this. It worked for me one time.
Bring some beautiful scented candles to set on your desk.
This actually is relaxing. I mean it.
Bring a fun gadget or cheap toy to play with or fidget with.
Pass them around occasionally. This is a great ice breaker and also relieves stress.
Squoosh balls, paddle balls or even a slinky. Things like that.
Bring a big dish or bowl of gum and candy.
Bring flavored coffee creamers and even some flavored coffee now and then.
EVERYONE loves flavored coffee! You will see smiles. Especially, if you bring cookies now and then too. Soon others will start doing it too.
Good Luck.

Perhaps u need to change jobs, if ur present work place carries a heavy work load, people don`t have time to be funny and aren`t being paid to be comedians. Yes, it is pleasant to work in a cheerful work place, but those places r hard to come by and ur co-workers r quite a bit older than u so making others laugh is not their top priority. U don`t say what ur line of work is, but it seems u`d be happier working at a job with younger workers/clients that have similar work ethics as urs. Always remember that a job is only 8 hrs. after that ur free to do as u please.

You start to crack the silence. They may resist first, ignore second and enjoy later.
