how can i lock keyboard and mouse for a period of time in a linux system?

i need to lock my keyboard and mouse for a short period of time and have to unlock those then.i am working in a linux platform.i need a program to do that.

When using X windows you can use xscreensaver to lock the screen.

Using the GNOME desktop you can lock your screen by adding a lock screen button on the panel.
