English is not my first language, and I'm not familiar with the SAT scoring system. Are these results good?

The reading is very good, the others are probably average. 550 would get you into a good University. Each time you take it you'll do better, go to the library and check out some SAT books, it will help you with basic types of questions. Practice timing your self too and know when to move on and not waist time. My daughter made 540, 560, and 550 and she is taking it again in 3 weeks.

Since most colleges don't even consider your writing scores, you have a 990 - which is not bad considering that you say that English is not your first language. However, your math scores are weak - I would advise you to 1)find out what particular parts of the math section gave you trouble and study those sections; 2)find a math tutor; and then 3)retake the SAT's at your earliest opportunity. Also, there are practice books available at your local bookstore which include practice tests, answer sheets, and the answers to each practice section. With just a little more preparation, you should do much better.

No, they are not.

The SAT was re-normed some time ago, and scores went up.  Even before that, a score of 1000 on the math and verbal (critical reading) wasn't all that good.  Today, that means even less than it used to.

Your math + reading is 990.  Your math score in particular indicates that you are not going to have good luck in a technical curriculum.  Whatever you decide to do, do not take out large education loans; you may regret it.

I good SAT score that will pretty much assure you that you will go to a good college is 1800+. I think you need to improve more on your writing and math. Each section, try to aim starting 550 points and up.
But its okay. You will have plenty of chances to retake them. My score was even worse when I took it for the first time.
