Gothic stories are good because you only need one character who is trapped somewhere and then you can concentrate on the atmosphere and build up tension. It also lets you use lots of language devices e.g. personification about trees whispering or oxymoron "screaming silence" (alliteration too)
Good Luck

A young girl being asked on a date by a boy and her joy at realizing she is no longer a little girl since he asked her directly rather than having friends tell her he liked her, that he'd like to go out with her, that she could go to a movie with him if she wanted, blah-blah-blah, and him waiting until HER friends carried answers back to him.

Should fill the page and a half, might even have to re-write to tighten it up a wee bit to not be too long.

write a story about how a person used the internet as a means of living. For example, they payed bills, worked, did researched all on-line. then one day the computer crashed and the internet was down for a few days. then show how much this person depended on the internet and how lost they were without it. Then, in the last sentence, say something about how this story kind of represents our society and how much we depend on the net and how lost we would be without it.
