I would put on latex gloves and take out the recipes I wanted to keep and retype them, or rewrite them onto clean pieces of paper, or even more likely type them into computer files (using a word processing program) and save them that way. Then I'd discard the dirty recipe box.

Well the very first thing you should do, before worrying about your recipes, you need to stop the mice at the source. Rid them of your kitchen, because that in itself is unsanitary. After they are gone, copy your recipes on another piece of paper and discard the old recipes and including the box. Wash hands well and clean all of kitchen with major disinfectant. Good luck you, you have a large job ahead of you.

Throw everything out!!!! Mice carry harmful diseases..mouse droppings can carry the hantavirus. Use rubber gloves and place cards into a plastic baggie. If you need to recopy them always use gloves and protect the surface you place the cards on. Replace the card box too. You have a smart mouse who likes to read...lol

yuke.... the only thing i can say is copy the recipes down and throw the orginals away. that would be the best thing to do cuz if you think about it when you use the recipes, you'll be handling your food and it may get contaminated. plus, rat pee is a scent that never goes away unless you throw out what the pee is on. and about the rat poop, it can really be harmful to inhael if dust settles on it. i heard of this lady that died from vaccuming up rat poop with her vac. they say that once dust settles on it, it can cause some kind of harmful fumes.
hope this helps....
