You can get a starter cord at most hardware stores. It's a relatively straightforward process to replace.

If your not mechanically inclined, best leave it to a small engine repair shop. The starter rope is wrapped around a housing which in turn is connected to a pre-wound spring, and if you don't get this right you loose a finger. Try the library , look for small engine repair/components. Hope this helps, Good luck.

Locate the screws to open the unit, locate the end of the string and patch it if the reel is hard to get at.

Phone their service center closest to your place, and give them heck for using a bad quality rope. You'd think they can use nylon with polypropylene, or cotton/ nylon twine , not a cheap 100 % cotton twill, or some other natural fiber rope. They might ask you to bring it back to them. Chances are, if your broke, then other units would have done the same and they are aware of this problem.
