I don't have kids, but I've written a lot of fiction, and any writer worth his/her salt names characters with the same care (oftentimes more care) than a parent puts into naming a child.

My female protagonists' names have been:

Petra Deirdre
Gisele Tatiana
Cassandra Caroline
Rosalind Midori (who is half British, half Japanese)
Emily Beauregard
Elizabeth Anne
Katherine Margaret
Kylie Marie
Charlotte Marian
Bridget Ellen
Ashlinn Honora
Brionna Niamh (pronounced Neve)
Maureen Deirdre
Goldie Randall (the character hates her first name and goes by Randall, though her mother calls her Dee)
Ivanova Athena (goes by Ava)
Ianthe Luciana (pronounced Eye-an-tha)
Salome Zillah
Desdemona Magdalene Daeva (yes, it was for melodramatic effect)
Naomi Delia (she later renames herself Delilah)
Grey Victoria
Elaine Andraste
Madigan Bernadette

They've had male romantic foils named:

Brendan Dennis
Severin Randall
Jonathan Lucius
Julien Edward
Thaddeus Marcus
Clare Padriac
Colin Edmund
Christophe Robinson
Kieran Reilly
Devon Elliott

I tend to like classical names, and most of my characters are adults by the time they come onstage, so their names might be a little imposing for an infant. But keep in mind that kids tend to grow into an imposing name more than they tend to stay at the maturity level implied by "Taffy," "Daisy," "Dixie," or "Brandi."

I don't have children and don't plan on it for a looong time, but I have loads of names picked out. I love Julia, Mimi, Louisa, Abigail, Olivia, Elaine, Emmalie, Claire and Rose. Some would be first and others are set aside for middle. For boys, I really like Trevor, Austin, Steven, and I'm getting into Caden, plus Walter, which was my grandfather's name.

I have a 2 year old son who we named Garrett and I have a 1 week old daughter [who arrived early! was due on valentines day which would have been cute] who we have yet to name. Before I had her we were pretty sure we were going to name her Sarah Loren but we're not sure now! At the moment she's just 'Baby' and last night I was thinking hmmm maybe lets call her Baby to save the hassle! Lol
What do you plan on naming yours?

i named my 1st son Michael Gilbert (michael after my husband) and Gilbert is what we actually call him. it's what we called my belly when i was pregnant (yea...i know...its crazy)

i named my second son Lecter Dupree. Yes...i am crazy....Lecter was my husbands idea. He is a Hannibal Lecter fan and we thought that the name sounded cool...that is if you can go without picturing Hannibal when you think of the name Lecter. Dupree...while i was doped up on pain medicine in the Labor and Delivery room, my mom told me that Dupree was my Grandfathers middle name (my grandfather had just passed a few weeks before, and i thought that it would be a nice tribute to him). come to find out, only hours after signing the birth certificate, my grandfather did not have a middle name. his BROTHER's name was Dupree....so i felt like an a s s. anyways, there are the story's of my kids names.

if i ever have a girl, her name will be Mickaylah Annabeth
