my son is 9 months old, last wednesday (the 7th) he had a fever of 103, i was able to get it down to 102 with tylenole and motrion. on thursday (the 8th) i took him to the dr and he said he had a cold. (i never herd a cold causing 103 fever but..) anyways that night i noticed a weird rash. it wasnt raised just blotchy. it was on his wrists, arms, hands, and ankles. it went away after 10 minuets. he continued to have a low grade fever (101 ish) until tuesday ( the 13th) he was fine all day tuesday, but then wednesday he started having a fever again, it is still low grade, but how long should this fever last with a cold. its been 8 almost 9 days. i dont want to take him in again, and them tell me its a cold again. any advice?

My oldest son used to be like that. He would get a fever for no reason at all and have it for a week. He would also get the rash. They told me that a virus was causing the fever and the rash was probably hives from the fever. But every kid is different. If I were you I would probably call the doctor's again tommorrow and see if he can be seen. There could be something else going on now. Good luck. I hope he feels better soon!

That thing about the alcohol in the answer above.......Doctor's say that this is not a good thing at all. "Never use rubbing alcohol (it can cause poisoning when absorbed through the skin)"

Get a second opinion. The rash means something but it could just be a side effect of the fever. One of my boys got spotty whenever he ran a fever. Teething can cause a fever too. If a baby runs a high fever that you can't break with meds you can take rubbing alcohol and wet a washclothe completely with it-get the baby naked and rub the infant from his head to his toes with thee washclothe several times. Be quick about it because the fever will drop rapidly and the baby will get cold. have a blanket or towel ready to wrap him up in to keep him warm when you're done. I don't know why this works but I have 5 kids and my grandmother told me to do this with my first one and it works every time. I thought she was nuts but I was a teenage mother and so I figured I should probably listen to her-she also had raised 5 kids of her own and it turned out she knew best.

My 10 month old had something similar a few days ago. She had an on and off fever for 3 days straight, on the 4th day she had red, blotchy marks on her back, face and head. The Dr. said it was roseola which is a rash caused by a fever. He said it was normal but gave me med's incase the fever came back which it did not (thankfully). So maybe you should check with another Dr or do some additional research on his symptoms. Hope he's doing better!

8 to 9 days with a fever this high in a 9 month old is not ok, neither is giving meds of Motrin and Tylenol ok for this length of time.
Take the baby back to the doctor, or to the hospital.
Go to a different doctor if you have to.
Until you get there, make sure the baby isn't overdressed, keep wiping him down with cool compresses.
Best of luck.

I would definitely get a second opinion. Sometimes doctors are so quick and busy, they don't give enough time to evaluate all of the symptoms.

I would take him in again and especially discuss the rash. This is not a cold.

anytime something new comes up, in your case the rash, you should contact your baby's pediatrician..just keep in mind that doctors are human and make mistakes, and they also overlook things..just to be on the safe side call it in and see what they say..never put your child's health in jeapordy..shoot that's what you're paying insurance for.

I would take him to another dr. or even to the ER for a second opinion. It just doesn't sound right.
