The US is an oil producing nation and yes we have more. Ours will last us longer if we also import. Reserves also mean we can't be shut down. Get it?
Now think about something else. All the world's economies run on the stuff. We are doing what we can to keep the world running. It's to our advantage as well as everyone else's. That's the bigger picture.
And yes we can and should be developing energy alternatives and as individuals be cognizant of our energy usage.

America has lot's of oil. America has the middle east, and Canada has some oil too, so I think we are safe for now.

We have plenty! If the wacko environmentalists had not bought congress and stopped the drilling we would need on one else's oil.
They block drilling in the Gulf, where Chevron just found reserves to rival the Saudis. They block Anwar, for absolutely no reason. They have blocked drilling in the western states like Wyoming, Utah and Colorado where we have a big quantity of oil.
We haven't built a new refinery in over 30 years because of them. Tankers are backed up in the Gulf because all our refineries are running at full capacity now.....which is a major reason for the high prices, not price gouging.

America has so much oil but only untouched for future use only in case all the oil in other countries are already consumed. US is good in the survival of the fittest.

Look into abiotic oil. Looks like oil comes from rocks not dead dinosaurs. Wells refilled from below.

I doubt it, it is simply easier to get it from the Middle East. There are alternatives if people want to do things for themselves. It's just that most people do not want to be bothered, or are to ignorant out of not wanting to put forth the effort to know.
