As a breeder, I have one question for the public, why can't the "unwanted" rabbits sent to be euthanized, be used as a meat source for the homeless. I am not supporting animal crualty, but instead am looking at two problems that could solve eachother. There are hundreds of thousands of people who don't have food in the world, and thousands of rabbits that are put down in the US alone because they are "unwanted". I grew up thinking of rabbit as the other white meat, not a little pet. So why can't we take the overpopulation in rabbits and use it to help feed the hungry of the world? If we are going to put them down, why not use them for something, than just waste the carcasses?

To whomever said don't talk about rabbits that way- I have 30 rabbits...what's your point? The cold hard facts are dead rabbits are being thrown away when people are going hungry.

Okay...the point of the question isn't that all rabbits should die...it's that there are rabbits being killed because there aren't enough homes for them and THEY are the ones I am talking about.
Someone said it's not good for you to eat rabbit. In fact, rabbit is one of the best meats for you. It is low in fat, and one of the healthiest meats out there. Also, you can buy it at the grocery store. Don't believe me? Go take a look.

You have a good point, as a matter of fact the missionaries in Haiti have introduced rabbits as a means for the poor to develop a steady means of food. As you know rabbits breed often and grow to maturity in short time. Some folks may think your question is out of line or even cruel to animals, but what is more cruel to watch a child starve to death?

There's nothing to keep you from slaughtering the rabbits and using them for your own or your family's use. In most places, you can give carcasses or parts thereof to other persons on a strictly private non-commercial basis. However, for reasons of public safety there are usually rather stringent regulations about the preparation and distribution of meat products to the general public. Some specialty meat vendors will buy *live* rabbits to be slaughtered and processed in licensed facilities; you may be able to contact one of these companies.

That's just like saying that all cats and dogs being abandoned at pet shelters should be dropped off at the nearest chinese restaurant. No not a good idea.

That's not a nice thing to say I have three and am getting more they are vary kind and loving animals you should never talk so cruelly bout rabbits in fact its not good for you to eat rabbits

Well,as i was reading yesterday i saw this category about how rabbits can be put to good use...Well i think they said that a rabbit with his owner sat on his lap and the owner got his mail and the rabbit sank its teeth into the mail letter lol..^_^ so please dont say bad things about rabbits as i too owned one but mine *sniff* died..i dont know why but please dont make fun of them there mother nature... ~_~

Because! Chinese people are overpopulated in China- should we take some of them and feed them to the starving children of Africa???? It sounds logical but it's just wrong! Rabbits are cute! have you ever seen pictures of factory farming and the way they cage up those chickens? I mean it's bad enough as it is, we don't need to add more animals to our chain of horror.

you could actually, but moslem and jewish countries would prefer them sacrificed in the name of God rather with euthanasia poison in em..
I ate rabbit satay once, too soft and too mean.
