Army?

Edit: They call people in the Army..GI's and people in the Navy..Squids, and people in the Marines...jarheads.

the "original" GI Joe was army. From the 80s comic onwards, GI Joe was the name of a special missions force made up of members from all branches of the military.

If you mena the team using that name in the 80's they wer part of the army, technically (although a couple of members like shipwreck and deep six were acutally navy). If you are referring to the original GI Joe that first appeard in the 60's then..it would still be the army.

Originally I believe he was in the army but over the years the term G.I. Joe has become more of a generic term for the line of Hasbro toys and various books, T.V shows, and movies. There have been 'G.I. Joe' figures/characters for every branch of service.

The original action figure wore an Army uniform, but later you could get them dressed in other military branches' uniforms.
