I have had my first period this past week and it has lasted a week. I think it is almost over in fact, I think it may be done, but how long do normal periods last? Is there something wrong with me that it has lasted this long. And this whole period thing sucks, a LOT, I wear a uniform and it is khaki pants/skirts and I am so scared it is going to leak. AGHHH! Plus, even worse is I am the only female in my class and when I discovered I had my period it was during my class with a guy teacher, I was luckily able to get protection quickly, but oh boy was I scared. Please help.

have you talked to your mom about this ? make sure u keep some pads in our locker/backpack/purse... and just keep them in your backpack/purse. they have many different kinds. the ones with wings will help stay in place better.
periods can last a week. thats normal . everyone is different. some last a few days.. some a whole week.. just keep a calender and mark it down how long it last. let your mom know if your having any problems / questions ../ or need to see a doctor.
where do you go to school that your the only female? is there nurse at your school you can talk to?? to get more advice if you dont feel comfortable ? in form your teacher that you will need more trips to the bathroom so he doesn't think your just trying to leave class. its a learning process so you will get the hang of it and get use to having a period every month.. welcome to periodland (LoL).

good luck

Well, a period can last from like 3-9 days, but it might be more or less. For the first 1 or 2 years your period will be very irregular. You may get it one week and then not for 2 monts, or you may get it every other week. It's very irregular at first. Periods sometimes last longer, during my first year mine once lasted like 13 days, it was just my body developing. It's not weird at first to have "out of wack" periods.

well it's good you had a pad/tampon in your backpack, but always have one in there just in case. If you are getting cramps or headaches, that might mean your period is coming, so go to the bathroom more often to make sure you arn't "leaking". Also if you feel like you're leaking just check in the bathroom more often. I know it's werid but don't be afraid to tell a man teacher, it might be weird, but he'll understand. Also, if you think you might be getting your period soon, wear a small pad just in case.

Hope I Helped!!!!!!

**Congratulations on Becoming a Woman!!!!!

Don't be scared. It's a real shitty thing that we have to go through and it sucks. I wish that i could tell you that you'll get used to it but you never will. A normal period is 5 to 7 days. So a week is normal. You're lucky because mine lasts for more than two weeks. And don't worry it's not going leak. I was 10 when i got my first period and i was so paranoid that it would leak but it never did. Oh and by the way for cramps advil is the best.

Usually periods last anywhere for 3 days to a week. It is normal for it to last for more then a week when you first start, because it is irregular and isn't on a regular schedule yet. You will be irregular for probally about a year, that's how long it took me to get on a normal schedule. Also, when you first get it, it may not come every month (irregular) So don't be alarmed if you don't get it until about 2 months after your first one, it's completely normal. Yes, I know periods do suck. Once you get used to them they aren't as bad, but they are still a pain. If you are comfortable enough to wear a tampon, I would suggest doing so, especially where you have to wear a uniform because you never have to worry about leaks with tampons. They are so comfortable, you can't even feel them, and you don't have to worry about them moving around and leaking! :) I used tampax pearl, if you are interested in trying them, they are great. If not, just make sure you check your pad regularly, to avoid leaks. Goodluck :)

Periods do suck, but rest assured, you'll get used to them. As far as your period goes, one week is pretty normal, that's how long mine last for. From the first day of your period you should count exactly 28 days (4 weeks) and that is usually when your next cycle will start. But sometimes it can be 5 weeks later, or 3 weeks later. If you're worried about leaking, just wear protection on the days when you're not 100% sure if you'll get it or not. You'll be fine. i wish you the world of luck with this

No sweetie, there isn't anything wrong with you. Most "first" periods range from 3-7 days. If you are still bleeding past a week then yes go and get yourself checked just to be on the safe side. Best of luck being the only female in the class . I know thats rough with situations such as the one you had.

While "the pill" may help to regulate your periods, it can also back fire on you. Keep the tampons with you and the panty shields as others have mentioned. You are coming of age and the boys are going to notice anyway. They haven't a clue as to what or why and will dismiss it as a "girl thing". Don't keep a tampon in to long. There can be serious effects that can be life threatening if they are not changed on a regular, during the day basis. Welcome to the adult world.

My first period was scary..I think I was 12. Periods usually last 3-7 days, it really depends on your body. And I agree they do suck but are a part of life. My advice to you is to learn how to use tampons as early as you can. I didn't use them until I was 17 and I wish I had tried earlier - its a lot easier. Do you have an older sister or cousin to talk to about this? Sometimes it is hard to talk to your parents but if you have another family member to talk to that would be good

The first period is usually kinda long. I had mine when I was nine, imagine being that scared that young! When I was younger, there used to this type of disposable underwear specifically for girls starting their periods. It was a life saver to me, but I'm not sure if they still sell it. I haven't seen them on the market. Look around the Maxi pad aisle.

If you're just starting, you may not be using tampons just yet. They are easier to carry, but it's easier to have an accident with them if you forget you're wearing one. Always overestimate how many pads or tampons you're going to need. Trust me.
