Rap...is it music?

The responsibility of an artist is to show the people their hidden selves. The authentic artist is one who gives birth to a new reality. He expresses what it means to be and enlarges human perception and awareness. Such artists are healthy self-actualizers. Talent may be inborn, but whether or not the individual makes use of it is his choice. Creativity isn't in the person; it is in the act. Free enterprise has smothered the creative process of the urban musical artist. The responsibility has been abandoned, and exchanged for the capitalistic ideal. It’s music for profit vs. true creativity. Minimal effort is being put into the process, and it shows in the end product.

I am not ignorant and I like rap music. BUT any music that glorifies violence or belittling woman I will not buy or listen to it. Some of it is idiotic, I do agree there. But some of it on the other hand is very good. To each his own. I don't go criticizing people who like rock or country or heavy metal. That would be very immature of me.

I think this is an ignorant question. Do you not agree that ignorance can be found in every genre of music, or for that matter, in any pop culture venue? In fact, ignorance is everywhere, not just music and entertainment, but government, schools, workplaces, etc. You'll never be able to get away from ignorance.

No, not at all.

I do find that some people who are very hostile to rap music are racist - they don't like hip hop because it is Black music.
