Hi and Thanks in advance! my (soon to be) ex wife and I moved to Australia about 5 years ago with a sum of cash to start over here. As we are getting a divorce soon, she has told me she would like half of that sum of money (of which we had none when we separated through no fault of either of us, Just living expenses). That sum would be a lot more than the total of all my belongings would be. What can I expect when this all goes through?

At best she can get half of what you have now.....she may regret the money that was spent/lost over the last 5 years......but she doesnt get a refund because the marriage failed !

Tell her to drop dead, nothing gained, it was living expenses. No judge would ever award her anything like that. The best that she could hope for would be if you owned a home, possibly sell the home and split the profits. Do you have any children? If the answer is NO, far out, you are on top. If the answer is yes, yeah got problems, she gets the house and child support. Did she work at anytime during your marriage? If the answer is Yes, far out, your still on top. If she can prove that she never worked and cannot work a job due to lack of training, then she gets alimony. Needless to say, you don't own a home, no children, and she can support herself, tell her to take a hike and thanks for the BJ.!!!!!!!!!!! Don't take this off her, she's got you scared silly, the money was spent by both of you with living expenses, now that the money is gone she wants to take a hike. Don't let the door hit her in the a**. By the way, I'm a fifty year old woman, I've seen this happen to men because they don't have a back bone, don't agree to anything with this woman, she's money hungry!!!!!!!! These people don't seem to get it, the key word was "HAD" a sum of cash, it's totally bogus to expect 1/2 of something that no longer exist!!!!!!!!!!

If you have nothing now, then that is what you divide, not what you had 5 years ago.
