Only gluten-free products for people with celiac disease can be claimed as a medical expense (and only if there is written note from your MD). And ONLY the incremental cost of the food can be claimed - ie the difference bet. the cost of GF (gluten-free) food minus cost of regular food. For example, if GF bread costs $2 and regular bread costs $1, you can only claim the difference of $1.

Now, you might be entitled to Line 316, Disability Amount, but you have to complete Form T2201 and have your MD sign it.

Hi. Sorry, I don't believe that you can deduct food as a medical expense. There are many people with allergies or conditions that limit the food that they eat, but they can't deduct them. If the doctor has provided prescriptions for nutritional supplements or otherwise, you can claim those with your medical expenses - but not the food.

Here is some information on what you may be able to claim as a person with a disability:

... and here is a list of allowable medical expenses:

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals/topics/income-tax/return/completing/deductions/lines300-350/330/allowable-e.html

I hope this helps. =)

You can only deduct them if you have proof from your doctor that you need them.
