Book title: about a man who writes a book about his home town and has to return and face them at a funeral?

He writes about his hometown and their secrets. Someone dies and he has to go back for a funeral and face everyone he wrote about. It's fiction.

While the one answer I got fits the profile, it's not the one he's looking for. Apparently there is another similar book out there somewhere.
