Quoted from Jermaine O'Neal in Maxim, "Bird if you're racist." Magic not only had the titles, he is second on the all time career triple double list, beat bird in college, came back after retirement to win the all star MVP (Jordan couldn't even attain this after his second retirement), played every position, and more stars in the NBA after him look up to him. Though bird was a great defender and offensive player, "Magic" johnson was so good that nearly everyone has forgetten that his name is really Erving to begin with! His name goes down in history as MAGIC, Larry Legend just goes down in history as Larry, not even the Larry and only die hard fans know that his nickname is Larry Legend!

I think Bird was the better all around player, but I will agree that Magic did more to make his teammates better. He helped revive Kareems career.Nothing against Birds teammates, but its true Magic won more rings. There has to be a reason for that. But in a one on one,I think Bird could find a way to beat Magic, because of his talent.

Magic by a hair. Both were great passers, Bird probably a better shooter, Magic maybe a little bit of a better defender, both were not athletic players. But Johnson won a little more and that was probably the edge in my book.

Both were truly great. They played different positions so had different duties. Bird gets the edge as a shooter, rebounder, ball thief, free thrower and long bomber. Bird is right with Magic as a passer also. Magic's return as an AIDS-afflicted forward was pathetic. Bird could also coach.
Teams win titles. Both were great players who led successful teams. The NBA was never better than with them both.

I think both are great in their own respects, but it would hard to classify one as better than the other. They played different positions, so their roles were different.
