Yes they have spent alot of money and are going to have to spend even more if they want to keep Carlos Zambrano. I think he probably wants a deal close to Zito's seven-year, $126 million and he even issued a warning that he's gone if they don't sign him before the start of this season. Good luck breaking that curse!

When your team has not won a World Series in 99 years, no the Cubs are not spending alot of money. It is all money well spent. Alfonso Soriano will be a 40-40 player this season (moving from RFK stadium to Wrigley will help his stats). Ted Lilly will benefit from the league change. The Cubs did a great thing in locking of Aramis Ramirez and giving Carlos Zambrano a 5 year deal (similar pay as the Zito/Giants deal) would really make this team look like a contender for years to come.

Getting a bat like Soriano can help. Having a contented Aramis Ramirez can help--now if we may be able to in trouble-free terms get him to paintings. D-Lee must be healthy. The Cubs' offense close down at the same time as he grow to be harm very last April. i don't think of we will see a repeat of that this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. My desire is that we've a guy or 2 who can destroy those slumps the completed offense looked as if it would fall into very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days...it looked like if one guy grow to be mired in a 2-27 droop, then the completed batting order grow to be. i'd like to make certain in the adventure that they could destroy that habit this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i'm no longer prepared on spending the quantity of money we did on Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis, yet having large Z at the front of your rotation is not in any respect a nasty aspect. How's the bullpen? That appears like the question i have been asking each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days for 20 years now. i wager it is a question we will have responded on a commonplace foundation...i'd like to make certain Kerry timber discover himself and outline himself as a badass closer. very last aspect, the competition. The stinking Cardinals gained it with 80 3 wins very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and that i do not see that the Cardinals are that a lot of a more beneficial crew. i imagine the Astros are quite worse off, given their pitching paintings force (besides the undeniable fact that including the bats can not harm them). i imagine the actual wild card in the imperative is Milwaukee. a youthful, hungry crew. And one way or the different, the Cubs look to play Milwaukee ninety 3 situations a three hundred and sixty 5 days. That very last aspect suggested, i imagine the Cubs have a good shot on the imperative. Getting Dusty Baker out of city isn't some thing yet a plus, in my e book, and getting a manager who will whip a touch butt is outstanding. The offense will be more beneficial advantageous. The pitching paintings force has each and every probability to be more beneficial advantageous. i imagine we are searching at a crew that ought to win 80 5 video games. in the imperative, i imagine that would basically be sufficient.

Zambrano didn't say he was gone if they didn't sign a deal with him before the season. He said he doesn't want to talk about a deal during the season, he said he wants to stay a Cub.
A lot of people are talking that the Trib may sell the Cubs, and it would put the next buyer in a pickle. You have all these huge contracts that have to be paid and a new buyer may not be able to do that.

they are really spending a lot of money but the zambrono deal will be big becasue look at his numbers last year these are awsome number with no big bat in the lineup (derek lee (injured) ) so now they have him ramirez and soriono that should be more than enough zambrono who i think wil stay with the cubs will be the cy young award winnner this year

They are getting desperate to win. They are in a good market, and usually get big names, but rarely contend. I think they are gonna spend free for a few years, and if they still don't win, then rebuild.
