There are many types of people that have a hard time finding friends. I say the one true 'type' would be the closed minded kind.

People who live in isolated conditions, or not in a large diverse pool of people. I'm a unique individual and I do not make friends easily. I think alot of social behavior including making friends is a very visual act. You see, and percieve someone's personality from what you see. Assumptions on a person's character are usually wrong but first impressions count for most encounters.

People who don't know how to be a good friend have trouble finding friends.

People who don't like people have trouble making friends (because when someone doesn't like people they usually don't like themself either, and all of those things are given off in subtle signals).

People who so desperately want friends they'll do anything to try to make people like them have trouble finding friends because potential friends know such people aren't being themselves and are trying too hard. This type of behavior drives people away.

Introverted people definitely have a difficult time finding friends, because they are quiet and don't approach people, which can cause people to think they are up themselves or snobby. And people don't like people who are up themselves.
Also, people who are 'different' and unlike other people. People generally don't like people who are different to them. A great example is when the whites met the blacks in South Africa. "They are a different colour to us, therefore they must be stupid, ignorant and below us! We don't like them, so we shall not associate with them. We will make their lives miserable!" and so on and so forth...

the type of people that find it hard to have friend are those that are self centered. really if you risk your life for someone else, that else will regard you as someone that cares, some that's loving and may be willing to be my friend. but if you think of yourself all the time than, me, myself and I. than it will be very tough to find some who can be genuine to you in any way.
