can somebody tell me somethings about ancient chinese farmers?

Two major crops in ancient China were rice and silk. Rice was the staple of the Chinese diet and silk was raised by any farmer who could because they paid their taxes in bolts of raw silk which the government could trade for other necessities (like horses) on the legendary silk road.
