Anybody who's ever gotten comic books knows that the first appearance of a character or a good story arc are very important to keep. Then tragedy happens, you lost the book. In my case I remember having Avengers Annual #10(first appearance of Rogue), Uncanny X-Men #137(death of Phoenix), and The New Teen Titans #1(first appearances of Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire). One day my mother threw them out. I never saw them again. That's my "lost 'em" story, what's yours?

I have two....

flash back to about 1975-6, household of two adults, three children all under five.... the father wants to share his love of comics with the kids.... so he has taken out his old comics to read to them, and for them to flip thru and read.. most were harvey, sad sack, archies, rin tin tin, lassie... and then the colorful superh heroes.... I loved those....now jump forward..... almost fifteen years ago my father jumped into a comic conversation (I was married at the time to a comic artist) my dad said "I had that comic" my now ex, a couple of his friends and I went silent and then I heard someone giggle... and say no way did he have that.... my dad said "first appearance of Spiderman? yes, I did it wasn't spiderman though it was called amazing fantasy..#15" mouths dropped slightly.... he pointed to me and said "she was reading it when she was about five.... her brother and sister wanted it.. they fought... it lost" at that point I remembered that fight... and the poor shredded comic.... history... the gasps in the room were very loud... everyone looked a little mad.... my dad? well he found out for the first time that day the value of it.... he had thought it was not very valuable.....go figure.......

you guys all wanna kill me huh.... lol..

pay back got me..... I had twenty long boxes I was in the process of going thru.... two I put aside, my favorites... one of horror... one of mostly xmen..... oh.... it hurts still.... I had one by one hunted down and filled those boxes with all the xmen (minus #2,4,7,20 and I believe number 28 or 38) all the way thru the 1990s..... the horror EC tales from the crypt, vault, haunt... reproductions, first runs, gladstones.... oh, and the ones that were my favorite from before the comic seal thingy was used... oh... oh....it had taken almost ten years to get all those comics..... and I had hoped to pass them to my children.... when they were older than five ;> well a relative was staying and they wanted some of the boxes I had marked to give away.... not that they weren't of value... they were/are... just that I needed to clean some out (was about to have a baby... at the time I had four already.... ) and well... I showed them which boxes they could choose from... and if they wanted they could take all the ones I had showed them.... you know what? they took those.... and the only two I asked them to NOT take..... fifteen long boxes in all.... ouch? all I know about what was done with them? is they went to a flea market.... sold them at twenty five cents each......my poor xmen..... my babies! my horror stash.... lost 'em all.....!

two lost 'ems.... sad tragic tales......

Well, this story is my father's. He went away for a summer while in high school and grandma cleaned up bunch of stuff in their storage...which included Dad's comic books. No biggie at the time. But when you realize that only one of those comic books was Action! with the first appearance of Superman (yeah, the one with him holding a green Packard full of thieves up in the air) and that the box was FULL of other titles that are now like gold, ouch! We are talking about a whole box of golden era comics of the late thirties.

My mother threw out three of my Spawn comics (Issues 1-3) as well as two Lobo comics (issues 1&2). She said they were evil.

Yea my "lost 'em" would have to go to when i lost the X-Men anniversary issue where Wolverine gets the adamantium ripped out by Magneto. I looked for days to find that, tore my house apart. Then I find out my friend "borrowed" it. Furious does not describe how I felt. So bad.
