Not a favorite, but a contender.
In the East, you get past Buffalo and Jersey, and there is not that much strength. The fat arctic birds have scoring, and the goaltending seems to be improving as the season goes on - a nice combo.
In the past couple of years, Edmonton and Calgary have gotten to the Finals. The playoffs ... lots of crazy things always happen. The East always has surprises.

The Pens need some solid defensemen before they are legitimate cup contenders. There offense is in the top 5 and there young goalie is only going to mature and become one of the best in the league. In two to three years with the adition of a solid defensemen and more development from young defense they currently have, they will be one of the best teams the NHL will ever see. This team is on its way to being a dynasty like the Oilers in the mid 80s.

It takes a lot of talent, defense and luck to win the Cup. Pitt has an abundance of young exciting talent. They won 12 of the last 14. the two losses came in OT that's 26 of 28 points in those games. The team is as good as any other right now. If they can play some D once the playoffs start they have have a good shot at the conference finals. If they get by Buff. they have a shot.

The Penguins will make the playoffs, but due to their lack of experience they are not Stanley Cup contenders.

There is a slight chance, but only if they adapt to playoff style hockey extremely quickly.
I would say no chance whatsoever, but they have managed to beat Buffalo and Nashville outside of the playoffs, whether they can do the same in the playoffs is questionable.
Oh and whoever said not with that goaltender is a complete and total moron. Fleury is an excellent goalie, he just lacks experience. If you bothered to watch any recent pens games you would notice that he has been absolutely spectacular. I do think they will need to get a better backup goalie, Thibault isn't going to cut it in the playoffs, and they can't keep playing Fleury every game

They are having a great year but they have an awful lot of young players. I think they will make the playoffs but I don't think they will make it past the first round. But it would be awesome if they went all the way. If it were possible for the Pens to keep Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury for years to come I think there would be a new dynasty in hockey but with the salary cap I don't see that happening.

they appear as if a set geared up for the playoffs different than for their goaltending which I could say is terrible. Marc Andre Fleury has a incredibly undesirable GAA that may not be in a position to be stated to be thoroughly the protection's fault. Now on each and every occasion Thibault is in internet the Penguins enable lots fewer objectives. Why? no longer by using fact the Pittsburgh blue line makes a decision they like Thibault extra advantageous and could play extra advantageous its by using fact Thibault has a miles extra advantageous GAA. Thibault whether has no adventure in the playoffs and as we observed at the instant even whilst Crosby gets into min slumps the place they doesnt could many factors he nonetheless makes a substantial impact by using fact they gained a pair of video games for Pittsburgh with the help of scoring shootout objectives. the subject is there at the instant are not any shootouts in the playoffs. I advise the Pens have incredibly solid forwards and a few incredibly solid p.c.. shifting offensive defensemen like Gonchar and which will incredibly take them far. they should not be underestimated whether by using fact they weren't even picked to make the playoffs yet seem at them now going toe to toe with Ottawa for 4th in the convention and four factors in the back of the Atlantic best devils. in the event that they play Ottawa in the 1st around and get "first rate" goaltending they're going to win the 1st around yet previous that it gets extra complicated incredibly in the event that they play the devils or sabres later on.

Sure, they'll go pretty far in the playoffs this year. I doubt they'll make it to the finals or anything, but maybe the 2nd or 3rd round.
They're young, give them a couple years of playoff experience and they will be a Stanley Cup team.

Not yet. The pens are the most talented team in the league. But they are a little too young for playoff greatness. Maybe in a year or 2

The playoffs are different than the regular season. There will be no high flying, end to end action. Sidney, Malkin, and Staal are going to get beat up. They will be cool to watch-but they are years from a cup run. Kings vs. Penguins Finals '10.
