I've been wondering about a book I remember from when I was a child. I would have read it in the late 70's or early 80's. It was about a girl around 10-12 years old or so, she had silver eyes and possibly some sort of power. Other kids and adults as well all shied away from her and thought she was weird. They were also a little scared of her. I think she might have had some sort of psychic power, too. It was discovered that her "condition" was caused by some type of medication taken by her mother during her pregnancy. (Kind of like Thalidomide but with out the physical birth defects) They eventually found a few other kids like her.

Does anyone remember anything like this? It's driving me nuts trying to remember more about it.

Yes, it's 100% absolutely and positively no question about it "the Girl with the Silver Eyes" by Willo Davis Roberts. (you've remembered the plot perfectly.)

It came out in 1980. I have re-discovered Willo Davis Roberts, the author - she just passed away a few years ago, and wound up writing a staggering number (maybe 80?) of books and winning multiple awards, including several Edgar awards (best mystery.) she's probably best known for the book "Megan's Island."

I loved this book when I was a kid and didn't own it. I had this friend who had it, and I would get myself invited over to her house for a sleepover, wait until she went to bed and then sneak it off her shelf and read the whole thing in the crack of light coming from the hallway before I would go to bed. My happiness at purchasing it at a used book store as a grown-up knew no bounds.

btw - yes, she had a psychic power (she was telekinetic.) not giving anything away, it's the tagline on the cover of my edition ("it's fun to make things move just by thinking about them!")

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH I read that book too and now you've got me thinking about it. That was made in the 70's? I read it in fourth grade eight years ago. I had thought it was a much more recent.
