No at this age my doctor recommended rectal stimulation with a rectal thermometer and some petroleum jelly. Juice can cause bloating and tummy pain for your little one. There bellys arent ready for juices and solid foods yet. Remember if you are formula feeding it isnt uncommon for your baby to not have a bowl movement. If your breast feeding try eating more fiber in your diet.

Well the first question is whether your baby is really constipated. Constipation can only be diagnosed in infants in two ways: 1) actually seeing the hard poop. 2) A doctor diagnosing it through an abdominal exam. Infrequent poops and/or straining are NOT signs of constipation in infants. Also it is virtually impossible for a breastfed baby to become constipated, and even not pooping for 7 days or longer is perfectly normal.

Secondly there are safer methods to treat constipation. Offering water: NO MORE than two oz per day can help. Glycerin suppositories are also safe as almost none is absorbed into the bloodstream. Another option is to try some gripe water.

Granted apple juice may be safer that many other medications. But really breastmilk or formula is all a baby should get under 6 months unless absolutely necessary to give them anything else.

Some people will give just the tiniest amount of diluted prune juice. If the baby is breast-fed, that shouldn't be necessary though. When my breast-fed baby needed help going to the bathroom, I bought infant glycerin suppositories, put vaseline on it, and laid her on a towel and diaper. Then I inserted it part way and held it in place. She , even at 10 days old pushed to get it out, and then went to the bathroom. I did all of this under my doctor's supervision. Oh, I never used the prune juice, I just know that some people have.

I would check with the Dr. SUgar water may help more. Apples are actually part binding. There are also some other tricks... A warm bath... a back rub... if none of this works call the Dr. and they will help you. Give the baby water about 4 times a day this will help inbetween feedings and will move bowels through their system!

You may want to ask her doctor. But they do have apple juice especially for babies. You could do half apple juice, half water and only about 2 or 3 ounces

NO!! The only thing your 6 week old can have is breast milk or formula. If your baby hasn't gone to the bathroom you need to call your doctor. She should be having a bowel movement at least once or twice a day.

I wouldn't at this age. If your baby is formula fed, then just add extra water to the mix, if it is 2 oz to 1 scoop, then just make it 2.5 ounces and feed more often until the baby is regular again. If you are breastfeeding, then you should give the baby little sips of water from a spoon or something similar to avoid nipple confusion.

yea its fine. i gave my daughter watered down juice to help her. but i would try to give her watered down prune juice instead, the apple juice might be a little too acidic but its your call. Gerber makes apple prune juice, so its a mix of each, and it worked really well for my daughter. juice is a good alternative to laxatives which should be used as a last resort so she does not depend on them

My dr suggested the glycerin suppositories. They worked within minutes. Call the dr to see how often you can do them. We used them and now my 2 month old is poopin' like a champ. We don't even give him water anymore just the formula. He had up to 2 oz of water to try to go on his own. Hang in there, it won't last long.
