I have a pen pal in Egypt. I would really like to go visit, but don't know much about traveling there. He is young and has never been outside of Egypt. Has anyone every been there? Is it safe for Americans (especially women)? What kind of travel and accomodations would your recommend?

I agree with Redwine, if your young don't go there alone. Sure it's safe for American Women, just make sure when you go out you are dressed suitably..basically no mini skirts and low cut tops..cover your legs at all time, wearing a t-shirt is fine but of course not low-cut. Apart from that there is nothing else you should be aware of...
I hope you have a nice time in Egypt, which I'm sure you will do..
God bless..x

I've been there plenty of times, egypt is safe its the safest country to go to in that whole area. Yes its safe for americans, anyway male or female i wouldnt go there alone or anyother country as a matter of fact. egypt is not as strict as the other countries in the area they are more moderate there. there are lots of foriegnors in egypt, american france british, etc

It's safe. Just dress conservatively arms covered no neck line. Otherwise no problem. A lone woman is fair play as is everywhere else in the world. The rules change so keep an open mind.

No. I haven't been there, but the brochure looks nice. Maybe your pen pal would give you some tips. How young are you talking? You're not planning to rob the cradle are you?
