No, they are going backward... the next trek movie is going to be in the days of Kirk and Spock after recently graduating from SF Academy.

At the moment, Cruel Angel is right. The next proposed movie is going to be a prequel (OMG its the decade of prequels...). I heard, although I don't know if this is true, they're going to cast Matt Damon as a young Kirk! If they do that, Star Trek will have truely sold out =(((
