There are a lot of those....
If it had a creepy child that meowed like a cat, it was The Grudge.
If it had an apartment that had inexplicable water leaks, it was Dark Water.
If it had a video and this chick in a well, it was The Ring.
There are numerous other ones out there--much of Japanese cinema is somewhat disturbing, intentionally or otherwise--but these three are the most common in the states, and all have been refilmed with American actors. The Grudge and The Ring have sequels, so it may have been one of those as well.

It might be Infection. It was on the movie channel a lot lately. It has a setting where there are like these two doctors and two nurses in this deserted hospital. Hope that helps!

disturbing and japanese? you got your work cut out since every other japanses movie in the commercial stream is either horror or gory, i would recommend describing the story a little
