If you lived in the northeast, and ever had to deal with a frozen high beam button (due to snow falling off your shoes and then freezing overnight) you would appreciate the change as much as I do. I think Japanese cars first had this feature, and the American car companies recognized the value of the set up.

The problem with floor buttons was that they would corrode and/or get jammed up with dirt and stick. Don't know if you have ever had the experience, but I can tell you from my own that driving around with the high beams stuck on is not a pleasant situation. On-coming traffic really hate that. They're flashing their lights at you to turn the high beams off and you can't ... not cool.

That is an extremely easy question:
In 1992, ADA, American Disability Association was formed by our Government. One of the first things they did is require the auto manufactures to do something about high beam button being at arms reach for the disabled.

they did this because it was easier to access from the upper part, people used to drive down the road ,and if they couldn't find it they would actually look down to see if they could see it,but I'm sure they had other reasons for doing this also,it was a better idea than having it n the floor, good luck,i hope this help,s.
