Long story! My older sister and I received Social Security Survivor Benefits from the death of our father, which ended when we graduated. My sister did not graduate on time, and went to summer school to get the required credits she needed to graduate. Soc Sec sent her the checks and a letter saying she was eligible to receive them. After getting the checks and finishing summer school the SSA sent letters to her telling my sister she needed to give back the money they overpaid her.
To cut the story short, I filed my first income tax return and find out the government took my entire federal refund and applied it to the over-payment debt. I have filled out the forms and sent them in. Now I am trying to get my congressman involved to get me some help. I needed that money.

When writing to your congressmen, you have 2 houses to write to. the Senate and the House of Representatives. Writing to your congressmen would be more effective if you knew who your representatives are. Check the Web site for your state to find your district and you can figure out who your Representative is in your district, but don't get it confused with your state representative. And look up who your Senators are. You can mail your complaints either to their offices Washington or at home they all keep at least 2 offices.
