The short answer is both groups believe God promised them that piece of land. The explanation is in Genesis.
The political reality is that a majority of Palestinians were living there for a very long time. In the 1920's there was a movement by wealthy Jews that they should "reclaim" that land and they started moving back there in droves. After WWII and the Holocaust, Israel was created in order to make a Jewish nation-state and a safe haven. Because of the dense population of Jews already there, it was supposed to be an easy choice.
I believe there is a lot of Jewish anti-Palestinian persecution that goes on that isn't widely talked about. I empathize with the Palestinians in that they must feel like strangers in a land they feel belongs to them. Then you throw in the religion aspect and the world community has to take sides.
Unfortunately, I don't believe there will ever be peace. The best we can do is manage it.

ms_knowit, it's all about the land or more specifically the establishment of the country Israel. Israelis use the biblical claim upon the land know historically as Palestine, but is currently called Israel. You have to look at each sides claim on the area The Israelis claim the land based on the following:
According to the Bible, Moses led the Israelites, or a portion of them, out of Egypt. Under Joshua, they conquered the tribes and city states of Canaan. Based on biblical traditions, it is estimated that king David conquered Jerusalem about 1000 B.C. and established an Israelite kingdom over much of Canaan including parts of Transjordan.
The Palestinians have been in what is called Israel around the same time (probably earlier) as the bible claims Jews exodus out of Egypt. Okay, jumping a couple of thousand years into future (and skipping the many conquests of this area by different factions including Britain), the Israeli and Palestinian conflict of today started out of a UN mandated partition of Palestine into two countries: one to be called Israel and the other to be called Palestine. A majority of the UN countries saw the plight of the Jewish community during the Jewish Holocaust in Europe as needing reparations. But the Palestinians rejected this partition. Also other Arab countries formed in this period rejected the partition mandate. Some wars and skirmishs between the Arabs and Israelis surfaced over the last ~60 years with Israel retaining more land that it had conquered compared to the original UN mandated size of land. So now you have this large immigration of European Jews in what the Palestinians (and other Arab countries) saw as Muslim lands in 1947 and after. European Jews had been immigrating to Palestine in significant numbers "illegally" since the 1930s while the British administered over Palestine (Palestine was/is not officially a country by UN standards). During the 1800s to early 1900s, Palestinian Arabs composed ~94% of the population in the area currently known as Israel/Palestine. Today the population of the Israel/Palestine area is 33% Jewish, ~67% Palestinian.
Jews not having a homeland is not entirely true. The Jews that immigrated to Israel had to come from other countries where they were citizens. Countries such as Germany, Austria, England, Poland, Romania, Hungary France, USSR, and Ethiopia are a few of the major source of immigrants over the last several decades.
Hope this helps...

That at this point is like asking why is the sky blue. The Palestinians feel that the Israelis stole the land that Israel sets on, I think it goes back even farther then that. But that has been the major contention lately, in many ways the Israelis are just defending their right to be there.

Palestinians & Jews kill each other for the same reason the Catholics and the Protestants killed each other in Northern Irealand for so long.
It is easier to politically and economically dominate an area if the people are at each others throats. Britain played the Catholics off against the Protestants in order to politically control Irealand. Those who attempt to control the Middle East do the same with the Arabs and the Jews, not just the Palestinians, but all Arabs, and quite possibly all Muslims.
Blame Europe, the U.S., Irainian Fundamentalists or the Devil, it doesn't matter who and in what number they do it, they are all guilty to an extent. You see a dead child, reason goes out the window and your first response is revenge. The power elite use this emotion to keep a continuous state of anarchy going so they can conduct their business uninterupted by the needs of the people they exploit.

Israelis stole the Palestinains' land, and save stealing further and further of it; they deny Palestinians all rights, and perpetrate war Crimes and Crimes against Humanity against them. they have quite imprisoned them in 2 aspects -- the Israelis took each and all of the land that has water and any fee or skill to enhance vegetation.

read the whole Bible
Jehovah God promised the Land of Caanan to Abraham and his decendants forever.
In 70 AD the Romans kick the Israelis out of Israel and out of spite named it Palestine
After the WWII holocust Jews from the four corners of the world decided to go back to their homeland.
Of coarse the 300,000 inhabitants would be upset so they have been angry ever since May 14, 1948 when Israel became a nation for the last time before Jesus Christ the true Messiah returns to earth to rule and to reign for a thousand year.
All of the Muslim world will form and alliance with Russia and then God Almighty will destroy them all in the battle of Armegadon.

The Israelites and the Arab Nations are descended from the two sons of Abraham.
The Israelites from Isaac the one promised to Abraham and Sarah by God.
The Arab Nations from Ishmael the offspring of Abrahams fornication with Sarahs handmaiden Hagar the Egyptian.
In the book of Genesis God spoke to Hagar and told her that her sons offspring would be as Wild Donkeys in constant warfare with His Brothers people.
Today we see the fulfillment of this Prophecy.

They are so close genetically you cant hardly tell them apart. They have a war because someone had the brainy idea to forcibly expel a few thousand Palestinian in say 1946 and put them all in tents. The idea is called Zionism. read about it and you'll see why the arabs hate us and britain as well
