Anyone can benefit from makeup. I'm not a junkie or anything, but I still think the right makeup would perk you right up. Don't buy cheap makeup, that's my biggest tip. It's a waste. The only time I'd buy cheap makeup is when you're wanting to expiriment with color, then go buy quality in the colors that work. I like Loreal eyeshadow (it actually does last several hours), Maybelline mascara (in brown/black, great color to start with, unless you're very dark, then black is okay, if you're very light, just go with brown), some Almay (great eye makeup remover), and for foundation and powder I like Cover Girl. But really, you'll have to find what brands work for you. I'd definetly start with mascara, that's good for anyone- Just give the top a couple swipes, and the bottom a swipe only if you're not a teary person. If your eyelashes don't "pop" enough when you do that, try an eyelash curler, if you don't know how, I bet there's instructions on the package. Then try an eyeshadow if you want, but don't get too bright of colors at the beginning. Tans/browns or even tans/plums should be good. Get a multipack eyeshadow with two or four colors, put the lighter color all over your lids, then put the darker shades just on the lower lid that disappears when you open your eyes wide. Eyeshadow first, then mascara. Otherwise you'll squish your just applied mascara. Most brands of foundation and powder have little hang tags by them, you put a whole fan of colors on your hand and find the color that "disappears"- that's supposedly your color. Don't get too light or too dark, but going to light is definitly worse. Some brands also have foundation that matches your skin tone if you pick one even slightly close, then it "magically" gets even closer. (Almay is one, but I've never tried Almay foundation). Foundation would be good if you have spotty skin, or blemishes, etc. If you're oily, or want a super-finished look, or for going out, etc. you could get a powder. I think pressed is a lot less messy, not the loose powder. If you want to go all out, or have a professional job or something, you could get something for your lips, but as you're new to the makeup scene, I think that would be pushing it. If you do want lip color, do not go too bright or too deep in any color. Start with nudes, then get slightly darker as you learn what you like. Here's where you could buy cheap ones, then buy qualilty when you find "your" color. Don't go too glossy, either- unless you're 14. So, foundation first if you want it, then powder, then eyeshadow, then mascara. I think that's good for a beginner. Good luck & have fun!! Okay, addition: NOW I read your bio and see that you ARE 14- so go glossy girl!!

Well I can't advise on colors, (except for that almost everyone looks good in colors with names like twig or plum) but SOMETHING is certain to look good on you. Don't start out with too much, though. That is the biggest mistake young people make. They wear a LOT of it, in really bright colors, and buy the cheapest brand they can.
Thing is, you get what you pay for, and you don't need every color in the rainbow. You can always begin with a makeup palette from a drugstore to experiment, but don't end it there. You'll just have to experiment and see what brands you like.
I'd sugest not doing anything more than a little blush, a bit of eyeshadow in a shimmery color, and a bit of lipstick or lipgloss. You'll get used to seeing yourself in it, and get more daring as you go. The makeup counter people are there to help you, as are beauty magazine articles. I'd also suggest checking out the Mark Avon catalog. The prices are good, and they offer makeup tips.
Most importantly- have fun and don't panic.

Go with nuetral shades - light browns, sheer lip gloss, mascara.
Most make-up counters have self help guides to assist you in picking the right colors. If you're really not sure, head to a store like Elder-Beerman's. They have people there who are experts in helping you choose the right colors for your skin color/type.

You should just start slow. Start with a little mascara, some blush in a soft shade and a lip gloss in a light shade. As you become more comfortable add more. Make-up if done correctly will always enhance your natural beauty.

Visit any major department store. There are dozens of cosmetic counters with "cosmotologists" just waiting to apply make up for you and sell you as much of their products as they can!
When they are finished applying the foundation and other make up just tell them you want to go outside and see it in natural light before you decide to buy anything. If you like it, go back and get what you can afford. If you don't keep walking... on to the next counter or store.

when I first started, I only used mascare for about 3 months and then used eyeshadow. Don't try everything at once, just add a little at a time. Don't go for colors until you're a little more experienced.

Start by going to the department store, make up section and tell them what you want. They will show simple, or crazy however you feel comfortable. They will tell you how to apply it and everything. Remember, make up is not everything so slowly starting is fine. Simple= natural beauty. Have fun, good luck!
