Brittany has great ideas for you to do. I just want to add that retaining subject matter is improved by using a highlighter for important information. You can review the material you have read more quickly that way when you need to put it all together, or take the test. It helps to write in the margins as well, particularly if you have questions or comments. If you prefer not to write in the book, you can still use regular paper for your notes. Anything to make it easier to review and learn.

Do you know other people who are in the same class or section. It is difficult to get working people together, but it helps to discuss the material with someone else in the same situation. It's great for questions as well. Good luck

Try using flash cards. I know it sounds elementary, but they're portable enough that you can work with them anywhere you have a minute and they force you to break the material into small chunks that are more easily retained.
