I made this hat, and it is cute enough, and comfortable enough, but not warm enough. Should I take the time to try and line the ear flaps, or just kiss it up to the universe, and not send good money after bad?

I messed up knitting a hat in a similar way. I later used a tighter knit with a warmer yarn to make a similar hat, but a slightly smaller size. I double them. It creates a cute look with the contrasting color showing through the top hat. Then, should I choose, I can just wear one or the other. Layering, and mixing and matching is so much fun.

Nothing's worse than overkill. If you have the hat the way you wanted it to be, then don't add anything else. If you want to add extra, then do the extras as independent units that can be removed at any time.

If you want to make it warmer just cut a duplicate pattern of it using polar fleece. Then stitch it into the inside by hand. I would go with just a thin fleece.

If it's cute, and comfortable, then I think it's well worth making it functional. :)
