Hi Pixy dust! First off, let me say that I KNOW how you feel. Sure, u could have a chemical imbalance. But I kinda think thats for crazy people! U on the other hand are depressed. Ya ever heard "Ignorance is bliss?" That's Shakespear and he was an incredibly intelligent being. My guess is that ur are very smart. GO TO COLLEGE. High School SucKS! It's the cesspool of mediocracy. Take a Women History Class so that u will understand part of what ur are dealing with you did not create. Plus, it will give ur brain something else to think about. Sometimes, we stay in heads so as to not reach into our hearts bcz there is too much pain. ALso, find another therapist till yu get one that u can work with. Be a shopper. Not All therapist are created equal. the single most determining factor for the success of therapy is ur relationship with the therapist! I learned that in my psych class! Im serious, take a sociology class too. YOu did not create the world u live in so do not be submerged or consumed by it. Anyway, that's what I think :)

Dear Pixiedust, there are several good answers here but you have a combination of hormones, school, and many changes. This is a tough world and many negative things are happening. So please see if you or your parents can purchse compound B vitamin capsules and take 2 a day with lunch also Panothenic acid (B Vitamin 100 mgs twice daily) this is a natural way to help with being down. Listen to happy music (not the rap stuff or that downer crap) look at pictures of flowers and gardens, when you think too much, imagine yourself in a padded little boat lying looking up at the stars and being in a safe place and that something exciting is going to happen. This is called imagry or biofeedback. Try and put yourself in a happy place and belive you are no longer sad. Do some physical exercise you love
Below is some pics to look at and play the music while doing so.

Oh pixydust why this sadness feeling??? Those women answering your questions are wrong. You dont need to be on pills, you dont need to write down your feelings so others can read them. You are your own person and know your feelings. what is happening to you is stress. You mention thinking alot. your brain is over worked. so therefore it puts you in this state. what you need to do is take yourself out of your current environment. And put yourself into a new environment. Ask your self where do you want to go or what do you like to do that put a smile on your face. its not a hard question. If you need to escape from the city life then do so for a while, most people become lost or stress because of everyday life. My other speculation is that you are seeking to be loved. If so find that one true love in your life that puts a smile in your heart and on your face.. you will one day realize you are not alone anymore

Wow ! I really feel for you hon! 17 is a tough age to be at because of your hormones going wild, and not to mention as a student there is so much going on at school and with your friends, things at home....There is just so much on your mind these days. What a heavy load....
Why not buy a journal or even a cheap composition book to start taking notes.? Just start writing down your day, and your days thoughts. Who knows? You may even stumble over what is going on in your writings....When you can't sleep at night, get up and write your thoughts at that time...Write down, "I sure wish I can sleep right now" I know I feel tired, but....Keep writing.
One more thought !! Maybe you are bored! and don't know it!
Is there a grocery store near you, or a wal-mart? Maybe they will hire you for 3 days a week starting out...You need something more in your life right now to keep your mind occupied. then you will feel tired enough to sleep...Maybe even a nursing home??
Good luck!

Your body is going through changes at taht age and it sounds like a hormone imbalance . I remember when I was in my teens I would cry over nothing and now it seems my hormones are balancing out.

Please try to ask the doctor to try Effexor or Cymbalta. Maybe you need to be on something for anxiety as well. Don't give up.
