The world has ended before, and it will end again in the year 2012. Usually, when a prophet predicts the end of the world, what they mean is the world as we know it will end, and a new age will begin. The Mayans calculate destruction in the year 2012, according to the History channel's "Bible Codes", it has been deciphered to end that same year, and Nostradamus predicts the end of the world in 2012 by horrible polar shift.. Who knows if any of this stuff is true? We wont know until after 2012, but a lot of sources say the same year. That's one crazy coincidence, huh?

The end of the world does not mean the actual end. It means the end as we know it, and the beginning of a new era. If you want to know when the actual end of Earth is, well that would most likely be in about 4.5 billion years, when our sun begins to die. It will expand in the beginning stages of death and engulf the Earth, and our planet will be destroyed.

As far as the end of humanity... I don't know. If we don't kill ourselves, or a giant comet doesn't kill us, I'm sure we wont live after our sun dies. Still, who knows!? We could live that long, expand our technological advances far beyond what they are today, find a way to another solar system, and continue living around the universe and our species may never end!

It could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk apacolypse.

Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).

The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.

Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

What do you consider near? Time is relative and a human device of measurement. I don't remember the verse right now but the bible states that to God a day is like a thousand years. Also do you mean the end of the world as we know it or do you have some more profound definition? I hope that does not come off as sarcastic because it isn't intended to be. For some cultures the end of the world has already come. As it has for any extinct species. Or tribe. So in that respect the end of the world is not only near, it has happened and is always happening. Yet for some it is only beginning.

Does the term....' a world without end ' ...ring a bell?
Everything exists in ' cycles ', if there is a beginning, there must be an end.....but there is no way to determine the ' when ' or ' how ' of it. You can choose to believe the so called predictions of the end of the world if you like, there have been quite a few over the ages, however none have hit the mark so far.
Personally I wouldn't worry about it, if it happens...it happens....in the mean time you should focus your energy on the business of living in the here and now....and as another saying goes...' let the Devil take tomorrow '.

2012 is suppose to be the end of the world as we know it. Differant cultures believe differant things, some native american tribes believe that we will lose the use of computers and everything run by electricity and basically go back to the times of old with out all the advances we have. Some believe that we are comming into a higher spiritual plane and people will be becoming more spiritual and aware people. Some believe that earthquakes and alot of natural disasters will change the worls. No real end just and end as we know it depending on who you choose to believe

The longer we are here the closer it gets, I supose there cold be 2 conclusions looking at the world right now
1)War
2)Natural disaster
as for 2012 and the mayan calander goes if it is true I am placeing my money on natural disaster becuase that would have been alot easier for them to predict then how long it would be before we killed each other off.

no it is not near, but who really cares?
we will all be dead in a realitively short time and it won't matter to us...
what you should be worrying about is what will happen to YOU after you die...
I don't believe in that 2012 thing with the Mayans...my idea is that the guy who was making the calendar just died and no one else knew how to do it and it was so far into the future that they all said - we are all going to die before then so no one needs to make anymore years on that stupid calendar- go back to work!!

and, I don't really go with the whole "we have to save the earth for the next generation" cuz no one ever "saved" it for us and we are still here.... the earth is a life form all it's own and it will take care of itself.

The Sun will consume the Earth as it dies and expands billions of years from now. By then, If man keeps from killing itself off we should have reliable interstellar travel and bases on any number of new planets.

"Revelations" was written specifically about Rome and it is very obvious that it does not represent any reality about the end of the world.

Check out Isaac Asimov's short story called "The Last Question".

It is getting near every day. It is like from the moment you were born, every day makes you one day closer to the day you die.

I think it will be war and weapon of mass destruction will be used. And the rest of the world will be affected by the chain reactions of the aftermath of the use of the weapon. It may be biological, nuclear weapon.
I blame US for starting this because of the military competitions we have with the rest of the world. Many countries are spending more and more into the military spending. They are advancing themselves in the arms development. This one day will backfire and we will all suffer.
